5Waterproof tarp is a good buy
By Victor H. Agresti
Harpster 6 Ft. X 8 Ft. Super Heavy Duty 8 Oz. Brown Tarp - 16 Mil Thick

Harpster Incorporated is located in Phillipsburg PA, but the product is made in China. This company offer 9 qualities/thicknesses of tarps as thin as 2.9 oz/sq yard -- this one is their heaviest @ 8 oz/sq yard.

During a power-outage, we'll roll our portable generator under a 5 x 7 work-table that's on our patio. We'll put this tarp over the table, tie it down, and the generator will be reasonably protected from any rain or snow.

The actual size of this tarp is 5' 9" x 7' 9".

Pros:

- Corners are reinforced on both sides with a tough material and have brass eyelets; the other eyelets are aluminum. Eyelets are about 18" apart on all sides and will accept a rope up to 3/8" in diameter.

- Waterproof and rot-proof, as it's made entirely of poly/synthetic materials, other than the rust-proof grommets.

- Tarp is made by weaving "h igh tenacity polyethylene tapes" into fabric, then laminating a poly film onto both sides. I.e., the tarp has three layers of material, heat bonded together. I'd call it heavy duty.

- Has UV stabilizers throughout, to protect it from sun damage. All the seams are heat-sealed.

Cons:

- The short warranty (30 days) implies that Harpster has little confidence in their tarp.

- Tarp materiel is quite "stiff". If you wanted a more flexible material, you may not like this one.

- If it's in direct sunshine for several days, the smooth surface will permanently wrinkle, much like you fingers will if you spend a few hours in a swimming pool.

Summary:

This tarp is tough enough to cover wood-piles, equipment, or work-tables - plus it's not very expensive.

Recommended.

5A Solid Performer, Working As I'd Hoped!
By R. Sells
I purchased this out of desperation to use as a barbecue grill cover. Every single one of the "grill covers" I've purchased has quickly disintegrated in our blazing summer sun, and I'm tired of purchasing new ones all year long.

This modest investment provides perfect, opaque protection for my grill -- in fact, it's so large (the smallest size I could find) I actually have it "doubled over" with room to spare. A couple of bungee cords are keeping it in place, and after about six weeks in the sun, it's showing no real signs of aging or decay. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it can survive the entire summer!

Recommended without reservation!

**UPDATE**

After nearly one year of daily use -- including a summer with several 100-plus-degree days -- this tarp thing is STILL holding up JUST fine! No visible signs of decay or rot, even in this extremely moist damp climate. Bravo! It's still rather stiff and "un" pliable, but it's doin g its job and protecting my grill 24/7. Don't hesitate to buy these!

5Heavier duty tarp than most tarps!
By J. Lyn
This tarp is definitely heavier and thicker than the average cheap tarp you pick up at wally world. Reinforced corners seem strong. I think it will last a long time, and so far am pleased with this purchase. Will update with more information after use.

Update: After approximately 5 months of hard use covering stuff outdoors in all kinds of weather, temperature extremes (100+ in Texas and 20 in Kansas), and high wind speeds, on the back of my pickup truck, this tarp is performing GREAT. No rips, no tears, and it plain just works. I bought two of these because they normally wear out and have to be replaced after a short time, but this tarp is lasting a lot longer than I thought it would. The spare is still tucked away and hasn't been used. It's thick and not flexible, so I try not to mess with it a whole bunch when it is below freezing. But the other day I discovered a puddle of water had frozen on top of it and I pulled a huge chunk of ice off it. Whic h means! It kept my STUFF dry!

UPDATE: After about a year of covering stuff in the back of my truck, this tarp is still in great shape. No rips or tears or holes. The second one I purchased is still in the package because I haven't had to replace the first one yet.

UPDATE: December, 2012, I do believe this tarp has finally made it's last trip with me. After the flaking started in May, there was rapid decay and dry rot, so now it has rips and tears and holes. I am seriously impressed with the quality of this tarp. I put it through tarp hell, and it last a year and a half. It was outside in all kinds of weather extremes. Hot sun and 100+ temps. Freezing cold. Strong winds. Over the back of my truck on the highway. I had bought a "spare" when I bought this one, because most tarps don't last very long. I will finally be breaking the "spare" out of it's package for 2013. Excellent value for the money!
