5Works just as it is shown in photo
By Stephen
This product is great. I used it for the first time and it saved me a lot of money. I ordered this product because my SUV does not have a roof rack. REI and Nissan wanted over $450. to outfit a roof rack to hold my 10' kayak. I even saw the same type of product at REI, but it was not as good of quality and it was $75. This product comes with two very steardy foam blocks with a very soft base so you don't scratch your car paint. The straps were very long and gave you plenty of extra instead of the usual shorting you of length like some manufactures do now a days to save money. I used this to travel about 80 miles and I did not have any problems at all. The tiedowns were very steardy and secure and I did all my 80 miles on the freeway at about 65MPH with no problems. I would highly recommend this product and the price is very good. I give it five stars, great product.

3Works ok, better for small kayaks
By Daniel A. Barnes
The product arrived as described, and the kayak was positioned atop the foam blocks and strapped and roped down as appropriate, and I got where I was going with the kayak still attached, so it did its job. There are two notable issues though. The two foam blocks are about a foot and a half long, so if you have a really wide kayak, particularly a sit on top (different hull design), the boat may rub the paint off your roof in places. This can be avoided if you expect and account for it. The blocks need to be positioned close enough together that there is a respectable gap between ALL points of your boat and your car's roof. If any one point is touching or close to touching, the wind will whip it around and rub your paint off. Again, this is not an issue if you carefully position the blocks to be in the lateral center, and close enough to each other so that the boat isn't floating super close to the roof.

Additionally, the straps whip in the wind and create a terr ible noise. It sounds almost like a vehicle with aggressive tread mud tires is rolling down the road, except way louder. It does this for me at all speeds above 30 mph, with a very notable increase in volume around 65 mph. If you believe this may bother you, maybe consider a roof rack, even the racks that attach with straps through the door seams like the straps in this kit do should eliminate this issue, since there are no expanses of exposed straps to freely move in the wind.

With the exception of these two issues, I am happy with this product. It performed it's job, albeit screaming like a banshee the entire way.

5Great Product!
By backwoods_beauty
This is a wonderful product. This product held up traveling over 100 miles from my home with over 80 mile of travel on the Maine turnpike traveling 65-70 mph even when it started to rain. My kayak is is a little over 9 feet so I cannot vouch for larger kayaks but, for mine, this carrier certainly did the trick! Furthermore, this saved me a lot of money on a roof rack for my Kia Rio and allowed me to transport my kayak to lakes in the area.
